Mary Webb. “Be Still You little Leaves.” Manuscript poem, one leaf, 2⅝″ x 7¼″, on off-white laid ruled paper, six lines, black ink. Trimmed from a larger sheet. A few minor tears and creases. The title line (in smaller script, and crowded against the top edge of the paper) may have been added after the body of the poem was written. Note the tenderness in the tone of this short poem as a protective lover shushes nature’s small sounds.
