Gladys Meredith [Mary Webb]. Autograph letter signed, [n.d.], to “Dearest Mrs. Webb.” In this chatty sixteen-page letter on four folded leaves, Webb reminisces about a trip to Lyth Hill, and a talk that she has attended about books and ideas. She says: “. . . I fear I did not contribute much to the conversation. I’m rather inclined to be what the un-brilliant so often proudly declare themselves to be ‘a good listener.’ (as if it were to their credit! Why, so is a cow.).” Provenance: Frederick Baldwin Adams, Jr.
