Mary Webb. Autograph letter signed, February 10 [1925], to Arthur St. John Adcock, one page on one leaf. Webb discusses arrangements for articles and reviews that she may write. Despite being continually in debt, and with a reputation for hounding editors for payment, she states: “For the Morton Luce article I won’t ask payment, as that is a favour you are granting me.” She adds a postscript, written at a right angle in the top margin: “P. S. No telephone at present, owing to a temporary lack of ‘filthy lucre,’ so may I have a line as to my queries?”
