Mary Webb. Autograph letter signed, January 27 [1921], to Morton Luce, four pages on one folded leaf. In this letter written from 46, Leinster Square, Bayswater W. 2, Webb describes some of her husband Henry’s recent literary efforts (she refers to him as “Bertie”) and then says: “For myself, I have written three novels, none of them (needless to say) as good as I should like.” The three novels that she refers to are The Golden Arrow (1916), Gone to Earth (1917), and The House in Dormer Forest (1920). Webb says that she is homesick for Shropshire and that she is worried about her husband’s health. Webb (recalling when she, Henry, and Luce all lived in Weston-super-Mare) reminisces about the time Luce “gave me that charming sonnet on my birthday.”
