Bookplate of Paul Jordan Smith (1895–1971), an American journalist, editor, and bibliophile who lived in Los Angeles, California. In For the Love of Books (1961), Smith devotes five pages to his appreciation of Mary Webb’s novels and says: “I congratulate myself that I began collecting Mary Webb before Mr. Stanley Baldwin’s testimony sent her first editions skyward!”
